OUR ORGANIZATION
The Friends of the Colonel Belcher is a volunteer organization established
in the fall of 1998 to support efforts to enhance the quality of life
of veterans in the Carewest Colonel Belcher Care Centre. This organization,
in partnership with the Calgary Health Trust, raised over $2 million to
provide amenities to enhance the quality of life for residents of the
new Colonel Belcher Care Centre completed in 2003.
The Care Centre provides single
room accommodation for 175 residents, 135 of which are dedicated to Veterans
and the balance to members of the community. In addition, 20 Designated
Assisted Living units in the adjacent residence are dedicated to veterans.
With the completion of the
Centre, the Friends of the Colonel Belcher Society was formed to undertake
continuing fund-raising for additional amenities for all residents of
the Centre. The Friends of the Colonel Belcher works with Carewest Colonel
Belcher to identify needs and with the Calgary Health Trust to raise funds
to provide for these needs.
OUR MANDATE
The mandate of the Friends of the Colonel Belcher is to raise funds to
provide amenities and enhancements for use by the residents and staff
of the Colonel Belcher, by helping to improve the quality of care, comfort,
service and education; and to develop relationships and friends which
will support fund raising activities for major enhancements to the Colonel
Belcher Care Centre.
OUR MEMBERSHIP
Membership consists of both organizations and individuals who are interested
in providing the very best of facilities for the residents of the Carewest
Colonel Belcher Care Centre. Annual membership dues are $50 for organizations
and $25 for individuals. In addition to supporting the mandate of the
Friends of the Colonel Belcher, members have the right to attend the biannual
membership meetings and vote on issues brought before those meetings.
